About the Workshops

100Eyes is founded on the idea that photography can serve as the basis for social change and provide emerging and professional photographers with an environment in which they can develop the skills necessary to communicate a wide range of ideas and emotions through photography.

“We will provide you with an atmosphere in which you will be comfortable, guide you to the right places, and allow you to develop your own personal photographic vision.”

100Eyes Workshops are held in places that you want to be….the places that have helped nuture photojournalists for decades. As a longtime Life Magazine photographer I developed skills over years that allowed me to fly to a foreign country and hit the ground running, with an instinct for the story and the ability to come back with compelling images that made it to the front pages of international magazines. We with the logistics and organizational issues, so that the students can concentrate on honing their vision. We work with you from the time that you register for a workshop through the concluding slideshow to create you for a positive and meaningful photographic experience. Group editing sessions are encouraged, and we cover important new ideas like a photographer’s “voice,” composition, story line, concepts that are not unique to photojournalism but can be applied to almost any genre, from salon to wedding photography.

I have decades of experience in location photography for clients like Time Magazine, People, National Geographic and many more. I bring the same attention to detail and research to my workshops as I did to completing these assignments.

We believe in giving back to those we photograph, and built into each workshop is some element of cooperation with either local photographers, NGO’s or other organizations on the ground. The workshops are created to maximize your photographic experience, while offering some of the comforts that we as traveling photojournalists ourself savor, in those moments when we are not on the front lines of important issues.

“Built into each workshop is some element of cooperation with either local photographers, NGO’s or other organizations on the ground.”

In most cases the workshops are built around subjects that the instructors are themselves actively interested in photographing. There is absolutely no better way to learn photography than in the company of a top photographer who is willing to let you see how he or she works.

What is included:

1) A personal portfolio review. I, or one of the mentors, will sit down with each participant and give you an articulate response to your questions and suggestions about your work.

3) You will have an opportunity to share your work with the other photographers at the workshop. I require the participants to provide each other with feedback on what they are shooting.

4) Our teachers or I will review your edit on a daily basis to give your constructive feedback and to make suggestions.

5) A consult after the workshop has concluded to review photographs produced at the workshop or discuss your photographic direction. Additional consults are available at $200 per hour, including photo editing, text, audio visual editing, etc.

I will provide you with an atmosphere in which you will be comfortable, guide you to the right places, and allow you to develop your own personal photographic vision.

The workshops are intended for intermediate to advanced students, and in some cases require a portfolio for acceptance. At the same time we are dedicated to teaching photography to all those who are truly interested. If you have a question about your skill level and whether a workshop is appropriate for you, please contact us.
